Phoenix Az. The Omega Youth Leadership Academy with the assistance of the Phi Iota graduate chapter and Alpha Theta undergraduate chapter at Arizona State University completed a successful 2023 post-pandemic 1st and 2nd quarter slate of programs and events delivered both in person and via ZOOM.
The 1st quarter in person events began in January with the MLK March, followed by a busy February with the OYLA volunteers attending a recognition event that was sponsored by the NFL Alumni during Super Bowl Week. Two weeks later the OYLA staff chaperoned students on the Annual OYLA West Coast College HBCU Bus Tour to Los Angeles. This year’s Annual event was partially underwritten by a grant from the Omega Life Membership Foundation.
The action-packed 1st quarter ended in March with OYLA recognizing and awarding outstanding students and teachers with tickets to several Suns basketball games.
The 2nd quarter began just as busy with OYLA conducting the 12th Annual Living Above The Influence Youth Conference in April, with the neighboring graduate chapters of Xi Nu Nu West Valley, Delta Alpha Alpha Tucson, and undergraduate chapters Alpha Theta at Arizona State, and Alpha Epsilon at the University of Arizona participating in the workshops.
In May, the 2023 scholarships were awarded, and the recipients were recognized along with teachers, parents, and volunteers.
The 2nd quarter closed out with a June 3rd “Summer Kick Off” kick ball tournament sponsored by the OYLA Alumni.
The ZOOM programming carried out in between the in-person events consisted of a February “Color of History” Program and a May Parents Feedback & Comment Forum.
The OYLA family and the community we serve are eagerly looking forward to the scheduled Summer and Winter programs and events.
